Twenty eight years of industrial analytical chemistry and Laboratory Management experience with Exxon Chemical Company and Afton Chemical Corporation. These years have been as the Quality/Technical Manager of Exxon’s Mytex Polymers operation and as the R & D Manager, at Afton Chemical Corporation. Nine years of Teaching College Chemistry before transitioning to Industry. These are supported by a Ph.D. in Organometallic Chemistry, M.S. in Analytical Chemistry and M.A. in Inorganic Chemistry.
Experience
AFTON CHEMICAL CORPORATION: July 2000 to Retirement in June 2018.

Research and Development (R&D) Manager: (2013 – 2018).
• Directed the standardization of Analytical Chemistry test methods in all Afton Chemical Company laboratories globally.
• Directed the purchase of Analytical Chemistry test equipment in Afton Laboratories in the USA, UK, Belgium, China, Japan, Mexico and Singapore.
• Conducted gap analysis of each Analytical test method being used at nine sites.
• Conducted Round Robin analysis at nine Afton lab sites.
• Directed statistical analysis of the Round Robin results to determine the repeatability (r) and reproducibility (R) of the test methods.
• Implemented improvement to the test methods.
• Trained Chemists and Laboratory Technicians globally on various Analytical Test methods.
Manager, Transmission Fluids R&D Laboratories: (2010 – 2013)
● Responsible for daily operations of all 6 R&D Laboratories (ATF).
● Served as Key professional point of global contact for support needs from all Afton R&D regions.
● Managed Laboratory staff including development plans and cross training.
● Managed Laboratories to ensure optimal utilization, Safety and Organization.
● Effectively Managed Department Operations.
● Accountable for delivering needed support for new product development.
● Own department ISO Quality system and documents and ensure all are current.

SENIOR R & D. SCIENTIST and GROUP LEADER (2008 – 2010)
Supervised the work of one Scientist, one Chemist and seven Technicians.
Developed and maintained analytical test procedures.
• Developed organic and aqueous ICP methods on the Optima 4300 ICP.
• Developed microwave digestion method.
● Developed methods for determination of sulfur, nitrogen and chloride using TOX-100 Analyzer, modified auto-sampler.
R & D SCIENTIST and GROUP LEADER (2000 – 2008)
Supervised the work of one Chemist and eleven Technicians.
● Developed ICP method for the determination of additive metals in gasoline and diesel fuel using conventional ICP, thereby saving Company $36,000.00.
• Developed WDXRF method for the determination of additive metals in lube oils, gasoline and diesel.
• Directed the use of LIMS and cost effective operation of the Elemental Analysis, Physical Properties and Chromatography Groups at Afton R &D.
More Experience
EXXON CHEMICAL COMPANY: 1990-2000
QUALITY/TECHNICAL MANAGER: (1998-2000)
Developed and Maintained the Quality Systems (ISO-9000/QS-9000) and supervised fourteen Laboratory Technicians and three administrative staff.
• Set up a procedure to respond to customer complaints. This new system reduced the response time for providing root cause and preventive action from 79 days to 28 days and improved customer satisfaction.
• Instituted standards for quality of products and on-time delivery which earned Mytex two awards - Ford’s Q1 (1999) and Toyota Supplier Excellence (1998).
STAFF CHEMIST: (1995-1998)
Directed the work of 1 chemist and 22 technicians in the analysis of non-routine samples from customers and other sections of the plant. Identified need, obtained funds and purchased laboratory equipment.
• Developed the “blue dye” gel analysis method which improved test accuracy by 40% and reduced test time by half.
• Author of “Gel Analysis in Vistalon Polymers Procedure” published in the corporate “Analytical Methods Specifications.” 1997.
• Developed oil in rubber analysis using pulsed NMR Spectroscopy reducing analysis time from 90 to 12 minutes.
• One of five Exxon employees selected as a contributing member of the 20-member Vistalon World Wide International Laboratory Network.
SENIOR CHEMIST (1991-1995)
Provided analytical method development and improvement, provided troubleshooting of manufacturing problems through chemical analysis, and improved Quality Assurance in the alcohol and ester plants.
• Directed the work of two Technical service laboratory Technicians and 12 QA/QC Laboratory Technicians.
• Developed EDS (X-ray) method for the determination of chlorides, sulfur and iron in resin replacing an obsolete technique and instrument.
• Developed FTIR method for the determination of Irganoz1076 in Vistalon polymers replacing a UV analysis. This significantly improved accuracy and reduced analysis time.
PLANT CHEMIST (1990-1991)
Utilized analytical chemistry to support plant production.
• Developed acidity and BPA analyses using phototrode titrator.
• Saved company $60k per year by replacing pyridine solvent with isopropanol in ester analysis.
• Developed HPLC method for the determination of light esters in plasticizer.

Teaching Assistant; Taught undergraduate general chemistry and organic chemistry, both lectures and labs. The Teaching experiences were at the following Universities: U of L, Louisville, KY; SUNY Buffalo, NY; and UB Bridgeport, CT.
