Abstract:   Paints and coatings play a key role in of our everyday lives and are applied to almost everything that we interact with, own and use.  Coatings range from the wide palette of decorative color choices in house and car paint to protective coatings used in transportation, buildings, infrastructure, and electronics.  This talk will generally review the types of coatings consumers typically find and use in their home.  Because food and cooking is a large part of everyday home life, coatings that are used in cookware and bakeware will be discussed in more detail as well as their benefits and shortcomings.  Newer developments and trends for consumer coatings and the coatings market in general will be highlighted.

Michael J. Michalczyk is President of Chelate Consulting, LLC, a company founded to provide technical expertise and knowledge to assist client’s needs in the chemical industry.  Mike has over 28 years’ experience in the chemical industry in the coatings, catalyst and polymer markets.  He worked for 4 years as the R&D Director for Dorf Ketal Speciality  Catalysts and for 22 years at DuPont as a research scientist in Fluoroproducts, Chemical Solutions and Central Research & Development.  Mike has a B.A. in Chemistry from Knox College, a Ph.D in Inorganic Chemistry from University of Wisconsin-Madison and did postdoctoral work at University of Sussex in the U.K and at Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
