Abstract:

Today’s young engineers have tools available to them that we “old timers” only dreamed about such as the following:

1. Real-time and historical plant laboratory data available on his/her desktop computer.
   
2. Access to the plant DCS control schematics showing current operating details
   
3. Access to powerful process simulation software.
   
4. Up-to- date P&ID’s and unit piping/structural drawings available with the click of a mouse.
   

However, tools alone without hands on field or laboratory experience can lead to some poor decisions. Arve will provide examples and describe ways to help less experienced consultants and service providers to improve their skills and odds of having a successful career.

Bio: 

Arve B. Holt is a senior advisor with Becht Engieering and has an extensive background in refinery/petrochemical operations, process safety management, energy conservation, and process instrumentation and control systems. A long-term Sunoco employee, he also managed his own consulting business and has been a Becht Engineering advisor for more than 10 years. He is a registered Professional Engineer in Pennsylvania, obtained his BS in Chemical Engineering at Lehigh University and his MS at Case Western University.
