Abstract: Running a successful consulting business to generate income for living expenses and investments for retirement or future business expansion requires a deep knowledge of financial vehicles available to the consultant.  An annuity, in some cases, may be a valuable asset in rounding out a carefully conceived investment plan.  When researching annuities, an investor will likely encounter various articles and opinions that are critical of what may be a perfectly appropriate insurance and investment strategy for the individual situation.  The pros and cons of various types of annuities, such as the need for a cash flow stream, risk of loss, liquidity risk, downside protection in the event of inevitable market corrections, taxes, and financial fees, may match the investor’s specific goals and objectives.
