Abstract: Presentation will highlight my pilot plant experience including several lessons learned from each.  The main emphasis is "Why do you want to build a pilot plant?" and how those answers influence the pilot plant design.  Setting success Criteria, capital and operating budgets will be discussed.  Managers are your biggest enemy!  Pilot Plant layout is important and plan for change. Common Pitfalls are discussed. Safety and Management of Change in a pilot plant presents their own challenges.

Biography: Ken Battle has 50+ years of experience developing and commercializing new processes and products. Initially his work was for operating companies (Monsant and Uniroyal Chemical) but later for several E&C companies and his own consulting company to assist clients with their new technologies. In his early years he worked on polymers, both plastics and elastomers, but later used his experience for chemicals, pharma and agriculture products. He had direct operating experience with two major polymer pilot plants. Later he used this specific experience to assist clients with the concept, design, estimating and budgeting for more than 7 pilot plants,
